Makerstoun is a two rod beat located five miles upstream of Kelso.
Lower Makerstoun has eight named pools with vehicle access to the entire length of the beat by a well maintained track. The fishing is slightly more varied than the Upper beat with the lower section of the beat running through deep rocky gullies. The beat is serviced by four Tweed-style fishing boats and can be fished in low and high water conditions.
Both Upper and Lower Makerstoun share the services of the estate boatman from February through to the end of June. From September through to the end of the season each beat has a full-time boatman. During the summer lets, no boatman is supplied.
