Grayling Society Donate £500 to TweedStart

Members from across the UK gathered for the Grayling Society's annual weekend and 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on the banks of the upper Tweed at the McDonald Cardrona Hotel near Peebles. The event celebrated the rich heritage of grayling fishing and united enthusiasts from across the country.

The weekend featured talks from the Tweed Foundation, including biologist Jonny Archer’s insightful presentation on the history of grayling in the Tweed and Ben McCallum’s discussion on the Foundation’s educational programmes. These initiatives, such as the "Go Wild for Fish" schools programme and the "TweedStart" initiative, aim to inspire the next generation of anglers.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of a £500 donation from the Grayling Society to the Tweed Foundation in support of TweedStart. The cheque was handed over by Grayling Society President Feargal Sharkey and Conference Coordinator John Gibson to Ben McCallum, the Foundation’s Education Officer, on the banks of the Tweed.

Feargal Sharkey commended the Foundation’s work, stating, "The Grayling Society is deeply impressed by the Tweed Foundation’s commitment to engaging young people in both angling and conservation efforts along the Tweed."

The weekend concluded with Society members enjoying a grayling fishing experience on the upper River Tweed, supported by the angling community.
