The Tweed Foundation started a four-year smolt tracking study in 2019 to monitor the in-river survival of smolts. By tagging a sample of smolts leaving the Gala Water each Spring, we are able to track the progress of smolts down the main stem of the River, seeing just how many make it out to sea and where losses are most likely to occur.
